Headline : Steve Casino's Legendary Peanut Portraits
Caption : Steve Casino has created a series of celebrity figurines out of peanuts. . .
Casino began using peanuts as his chosen medium when he noticed an individual peanut bore an uncannily similar resemblance to himself and scribbled a hastily drawn caricature with a marker pen.
He showed the 'Steve-a-likey' peanut to a friend to an amused response, inspiring Casino to gamble his artistic skills on a veritable bowl of assorted icons. There's: Sir Elton John, James Brown, Joey Ramone, the Sex Pistols, Andy Warhol, James Bond, Dr Who, The Addams Family, Star Trek's Spock and Captain Kirk, Batman, Spider-Man, Dr Octopus, Wonder Woman . . . .not to mention, classic comedy couple, Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball.
Casino says: " I didn't really know how to paint but have always been a quick learner. By the fourth nut I really saw an improvement. And I discovered a heretofore unknown talent - I could paint really, really small with lots of detail. Now each time I do one I try to make it better and more detailed. I've learned some new skills along the way and created a new gig for myself."
He is not giving away his portraits for peanuts either! Steve's collection is showcased at stevecasino.com and he charges around $500 for a commissioned piece, preserved with a polyurethane coating and a turnaround time of 4-6 weeks.
