A sea lion spotted on the road near San Francisco International Airport hopped into the back of a police cruiser voluntarily, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Commuters had alerted authorities to the animal on Highway 101 on Tuesday (30 April) morning.
When CHP Officer Roger Pereira opened his patrol car door, the animal "jumped right in," according to CHP Officer Bert Diaz.
The sea lion was taken to Peninsula SPCA for treatment.
CHP San Francisco said: "At approximately 8:33 am Officer Pereira received call of a sea lion in distress on us-101 northbound, south of the South San Francisco exit. Upon arrival The sea lion appeared healthy and uninjured."
