Headline : Boo-ris Johnson: Beano Reveals Kids Are Dressing Up As Boris Johnson This Halloween
Caption : British children will be dressing up as Boris Johnson this Halloween according to new research by Beano as the Prime Minister is named the ‘ghastliest figure of the 21st Century’ by two thirds of British parents and children.

The new study of 2,000 British parents and their children aged 6-14 shows over half (54%) of British families are drawing direct inspiration from Brexit for their Halloween plans this year with 28% dressing up as famous British politicians, and 20% using Brexit themed decorations.

Eight in ten (82%) British children have said that they now prefer modern and pop culture outfits for Halloween over traditional costumes such as ghosts, witches and vampires. The research has revealed the top 20 topical Halloween outfit choices for 2019 which features Boris Johnson alongside modern pop culture favorites including IT 2’s Pennywise, The Joker and characters from Stranger Things and hit video game Fortnite.

Three of the Prime Minister’s most ridiculous looks, including “Zipwire Boris”, “Biking Boris” and “Bullingdon Boris”, have been recreated to inspire little budding ‘Boo-ris Johnson’s’ this Halloween. Beano readers Jack Waterson (7), Jamison McCarthy (10) and Presley Kempson (10) took to the streets of Central London this month to test reactions to their “Boris” costumes ahead of Halloween night.

The “Zipwire Boris” design worn by Jack remembers when Boris was left dangling on a wire, 20ft in the air at the 2012 Olympic Games. It includes a helmet, harness, British flags and DIY zip wire made from two brooms and spray-painted rope. Presley’s ‘Biking Boris’ was inspired by Bojo’s passion for cycling and styled from the many snaps of Boris on his daily commute. Finally, Jamison’s ‘Bullingdon Boris’ was modelled on Boris’ younger Oxford days as part of the elite and notorious Bullingdon Club.

Trumped only by the US President, Donald Trump; Mr Johnson has also been identified as the second ‘scariest celebrity’ of 2019 alongside political rivals including Jeremy Corbyn and Nigel Farage, as almost two thirds of kids (60%) admit today’s politicians give them the heebie-jeebies.

Mike Stirling, Editorial Director of Beano Studios, said “Kids today are far more clued up as to what’s going on in the world and with Brexit on everyone’s lips, it’s unsurprising that we’ll be seeing a horde of mini Boris’ taking over the streets of the UK this Halloween, with a Jeremy Corbyn or two.”
