Headline : Ripple: Designers Create Wearable Sex Aid Suit For The Disabled
Caption : Designers have created a suit that enables those with disabilities to fulfil their sexual needs.

Dubbed the Ripple, the design includes three parts: clothes with tactile stimulus, a facial mask with visual/auditory/olfactory stimulus and a remote control with receiver.

Taiwanese co-creators Hsin-Jou Huang, Szu-Ying Lai, Chia-Ning Hsu, explain: “To the disabled, the right to fulfil their sexual need had been ignored and considered as taboo in some regions. Ripple is the design to take the sexual right of the disabled like the normal people. Moreover, the disabled can rely on Ripple to suffice their need mentally and physically.

“Ripple focuses on multiple dimensions of tactile, visual, auditory and olfactory stimuli. The design provides the tactility on various areas of human body, the scent of pheromone, the rhythm of sound and light. Ripple can successfully create the immersive ambience to meet the sexual need of the disabled.

“The target users of Ripple are the disabled those who have moderate to severe functional limitation and require caregivers to assist their daily life. In Taiwan, their family usually play this role which leads to ignorance of their needs for masturbation due to embarrassment. Therefore, the design of Ripple will not only help those in need but also raise more public awareness like the ripple.”

HOW IT WORKS

Unique Design

Ripple design includes three parts: the clothes with tactile stimulus, the facial mask with visual/auditory/olfactory stimulus and a remote control with receiver.

Tactile stimulus -

Ripple focuses on the simulation of tactile feeling. The heating inflation air cushions are placed at the sensitive areas such as breasts, thighs etc. The air cushions will gradually inflate along the muscle to simulates the feeling of touching. There are also some stimulations such as vibration (for women) and pressure for the private part (for men).

Visual, auditory and olfactory stimulus -

Other than touching, Ripple also provides a facial mask that enhances the experience. The facial mask has three main purposes: Firstly, users are blocked from the sense of visual with ambient light, leading to magnify other stimulation. Secondly, it plays ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response) sound for relaxation. Lastly, it releases pheromone to reduce the possible anxiety and increase the user’s sex pleasure.

Simulation of embrace -

After every session, Ripple will inflate and heat the cushions to simulate the feeling of hug and to make the user at ease after orgasm. Other cushions that are placed at shoulder and abdominal will inflate simultaneously to create the feeling of being hugged. There are also sensors on the clothes which user can use remote to control and choose how they want the air cushion to work.

User Experience

Extended foreplay, extended pleasure -

There are two main reasons why Ripple focuses on foreplay: First, the disabled often owns less knowledge about sex and are not used to the masturbation or orgasm. By starting with the foreplay, not only it can reduce their anxiety but also make them be aware of their desire for sex and erogenous zone. Second, since foreplay takes the most time during masturbation, the using experience is extended to provide the user a more pleasurable time.

Biggest privacy protection come after the least assistance -

When it comes to masturbation, privacy has always been the top issue. Ripple only requires the caregiver to help the user put on and take off the product, which provides user a different masturbation experience with full privacy.

Covering for more privacy and more pleasure -

Putting on/ taking off clothes is part of the caregiver’s daily routine. And this is the main reason why we design Ripple in the form of covering. By doing so, the caregiver feels less embarrassed when assisting since they’re simply helping the disabled to put on/ take off the clothes. Meanwhile, the user can also feel more comfortable when being assisted, which raise their willingness to use the product.

Challenge Faced

About privacy -

First challenge is how we can keep the privacy to the users in using the product. Most of our target users need at least one caregiver to help in their daily life. Therefore, their needs for masturbation tend to be ignored, or it tends to have no privacy. To solve this issue, Ripple designs to separate the use into three stages: Preparation, Experience, and Resolution. The product only needs the caregiver to help the user in preparing and tidying up, which gives the user the private environment to use the product. Ripple provides the well covering of user body, which gives the user full confidence of privacy.

About willingness to assist -

Second challenge is how we can minimize the action from caregivers during the process to raise their willingness to assist. Ripple simplifies the process in preparing and tidying up to reduce the effort from caregiver. Ripple provides the indicators for both users and caregiver to show the different stage of use that caregiver can connect to the product remotely.

In Taiwan, under its conservative social atmosphere about sex, the family with the disabled member still have discrimination on the issue of sex right. Therefore, Ripple provides the protection of privacy to the disabled and reduces the involvement of caregiver, which can raise the willingness to support the disabled to fulfill their sexual need.
